IN THE MARKET FOR SOME "NEW" GEAR?
There’s no getting away from it – clothes are one of life’s essentials. We all need them, but how much do we spend on them? According to a recent survey, the average Australian woman will spend over $75,000 on clothes and accessories in a lifetime.
It’s a New Year and time to widen your shopping experience. Think outside your usual shopping haunts and head to Take 2 Markets to top up your wardrobe with great finds.
Here are my tips for a fun shop at Take 2 Markets (or any markets!):
DO:
· Get there early – most of the good stuff is snapped up first
· Have small notes and coins ready – stallholders may not be able to change $50 first thing in the morning
· Bring your own shopping bags
· Be prepared – wear comfy clothing and shoes which are easy to get on and off.
· Try things on!
· If you see something you love, try it and then buy it. I’ve seen too many women miss out on their perfect buy because they left it for someone else to nab
· Buy larger sizes – you can always have it tailored to you

DON’T
· Be intimidated – there is a huge choice and lots to look at. Take your time.
· Expect privacy when you try things on - change rooms are communal
· Be afraid to ask questions about what you’re buying
· Immediately offer half the price of what the stallholder is asking – very bad manners.
· Buy something in a size too small – dieting to fit into clothes NEVER works
Take 2 Markets are a great way to buy great gear at bargain prices. It is also a good opportunity to play around with different styles, colours and brands of clothing which you may have not previously considered. If you are not outlaying a fortune, then why not? You might find a fabulous new frock or jacket which makes you look and feel amazing.
The majority of clothing & accessories is second-hand, however each market has a good smattering of brand new with tags fashion, vintage, retro and much more. You can always splurge on some fabulous jewellery, belts and other accessories to give your wardrobe a lift.
Be part of the new wave of consumer consciousness. I know I always enjoy a good browse through the racks, and I never know what I will come out with. That’s the beauty of it. And if you get sick of it after a couple of wears, then donate it to your local Vinnies! Someone is bound to buy it and the life cycle of clothing continues, rather than ending up in landfill. I highly recommend you give Take 2 Markets a go. Its fun and your wallet and the planet will thank you.
